One Day Wine Course - London

Compare and taste fine wines from around the world.

While many wine schools focus on certificate-based training, our courses take a different path. Drawing on years of Master of Wine study and hands-on trade experience, each class is expertly curated, practical and enjoyable. Designed to help you truly understand wine – not just pass another exam – they offer a smarter, more personal way to learn that’s both engaging and refreshingly down-to-earth.

One-day wine courses at The London Wine Academy run for four to five hours and include a multi-course meal paired with five to eight wines. Three options are available: the Classic Beginners Wine Course (early-bird from £199), the Premium Beginners Wine Course (£229), and the Platinum Fine Wine Experience with wine and food matching (from £279). Courses take place at The Punch Bowl in Mayfair and The Duke of Sussex in Bankside. Maximum 12 students per class. All tutors hold WSET Diploma, Master of Wine or Master Sommelier credentials. No prior wine knowledge needed. Open-dated gift vouchers accepted on all courses.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a one-day wine course and a shorter tasting?
Time and depth. Our Adventurer Tastings (2 hours, from £139) give you a quick, fun introduction — ideal if you’re new to wine or short on time. Our one-day courses (4–5 hours, from £199) let you actually learn the fundamentals: how to taste properly, what makes wines different, how to think about food pairing, how to make confident choices. You’ll taste more wines, enjoy a proper meal, and finish genuinely educated.
What food is included?
The Classic and Premium Beginners courses include a 2–3 course or 3-course menu respectively, woven through your tasting. The Platinum Fine Wine Experience includes a full 5-course menu with wines specifically matched to each course. All food is prepared fresh at our venues and serves as a natural part of learning how wine works with real meals.
How many wines will I taste?
Between 5 and 8 wines depending on the course you choose. The Classic and Premium courses focus on breadth across different regions and styles. The Platinum experience explores fewer wines but in greater depth, with an emphasis on fine wines and how they pair with each course.
What’s the class size like?
We keep our one-day courses deliberately small — a maximum of 12 students per session. This means you get genuine attention from your tutor, space to ask questions, and a more personal experience than you’d get in a larger group setting.
What venues do you use for one-day courses?
We teach at two beautiful central London locations: The Punch Bowl in Mayfair and The Duke of Sussex in Bankside. Both are proper establishments with excellent wines, knowledgeable staff, and kitchens that produce excellent food. You can specify your venue preference when booking.
Can I request dietary adjustments for the meal?
Yes. Let us know in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate dietary requirements. Our venue kitchens are experienced in catering for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other common dietary needs. Just mention it when you book or drop us an email beforehand.
What will I actually learn?
You’ll learn the practical essentials: how to taste wine (what to look for, what flavours mean), how wine is made and why that matters, how regions and grapes affect flavour, how wine and food work together, and how to make confident choices when buying wine. You’ll leave understanding your own preferences and equipped to explore wine independently.
What’s included in the price?
Everything. Your tutor, all wines, the full meal (2–3 courses for Classic/Premium, 5 courses for Platinum), water, and teaching materials. There are no hidden extras. The only additional cost would be if you choose to buy wine at the venue bar after the course.
How do I choose between Classic, Premium, and Platinum?
Classic is perfect if you’re brand new to wine and want excellent value (especially with early-bird pricing at £199). Premium gives you a slightly more generous experience at £229. Platinum (from £279) is for those who want to explore finer wines and dive deeper into food pairing. All three are excellent; it’s simply about how much time and depth you want.
