Frequently Asked Questions
What is a wine masterclass, and how is it different from a beginners course?
A Voyager Masterclass focuses on one wine country in detail. Over around 2.5 hours you compare and contrast a selection of wines, learning about the local grape varieties, winemaking traditions and what makes that country distinctive. It suits anyone who has done a tasting or beginners course and wants to go further, or anyone with a real interest in a particular country.
Which wine countries do the Voyager Masterclasses cover?
All year round: France (Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhône, the Loire and Alsace), Italy (Piemonte, Tuscany, Sicily and the Veneto), Spain (Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rías Baixas and Jerez) and South Africa (Stellenbosch, Swartland and the Cape). Our seasonal masterclasses, Champagne & Sparkling Wine, English Wine and Port, run once or twice a year. Each masterclass stands on its own, so you can choose the countries that interest you most or work through the full collection.
How many wines will I taste?
A selection of wines, each chosen to show a particular style, region or way of making wine. Your tutor explains why each wine was chosen and what it tells you about the country.
Is food included?
Yes. Every Voyager Masterclass includes regional plates chosen to complement the wines of that country. Food and wine matching is part of the learning, so you see why certain dishes work with certain wines.
Do I need any wine experience?
No formal experience is needed, but the masterclasses suit people who already enjoy wine and want to go deeper into one country. If you are completely new to wine, the Premium Beginners Wine Course or an Adventurer Tasting is a good place to start.
Can I buy a Voyager Masterclass as a gift?
Yes. Open-dated wine tasting vouchers can be used for any of our masterclasses, and the recipient chooses the country and date. Vouchers are valid for 12 months and delivered instantly by email.
Where are the masterclasses held?
At venues across central London, including Mayfair, St James’s, Bankside, the South Bank, Waterloo, King’s Cross and the City. You will find the venue for each date on the course page.
How much does a Voyager Masterclass cost?
£189 per person, including all the wines, the regional plates and your tutor. There are no hidden extras. Our Voyager bundles are 3 masterclasses for £499 or 4 for £659.
Can I attend more than one masterclass?
Absolutely. Many of our guests work through several countries, and as each masterclass stands on its own, you can take them in any order.
